Australia’s Josh Green shone at Basketball Without Borders

Crammed in among the hoopla of All-Star weekend is the Basketball Without Borders camp — an initiative created by the NBA in 2001 to feature the top youth players aged 19 years and under from Asia, Europe, Latin America and Africa, as selected by the NBA, FIBA and participating federations.

Known as an athletic two-guard with great verticality, Green wanted in particular to showcase his passing ability.

“I feel like I’ve always kind of had it [passing ability], but I feel like it was important to implement it into my game and I feel like it’s helped out a lot,” he said. “I just really like getting my other teammates involved into the game.”

We were so close to having a team playing in their home stadium, but the Minnesota Vikings simply couldn’t close the deal against Philadelphia in the NFC title game, resulting in a 38-7 shellacking. Meanwhile, the Jacksonville Jaguars pushed New England further than anyone possibly could have imagined, but they still fell late in an inevitable 24-20 defeat at the hands of the immortal Tom Brady.

“I know Trey can put the ball in the hole and he can get hot,” Hornacek added. “He controls the pace, he’s a guy that can get things going. But defensively I thought he was the key. .. Trey was great on both sides of the court.”

The first game after the All-Star break for both teams marked the first Knicks start for guard Emmanuel Mudiay, who was acquired from Denver in a three-team trade on Feb. 8. It also marked the returns from injury for center Nikola Vucevic and forward Aaron Gordon of the Magic. Vucevic finished with 19 points and six rebounds.

The Magic made 11 of their first 12 shots, including all five 3-pointers, on their way to a 41-point first quarter and a 10-point lead. Orlando shot 61 percent in the first half.bears_089-223x223

Memo outlines new hotline to register improper conduct by team, league employees

In the aftermath of allegations of harassment and violence toward female employees in the Dallas Mavericks organization, the NBA is instituting a confidential hotline for team and league employees to register concerns of improper conduct, according to a memo obtained by ESPN.

A Sports Illustrated report described a Mavericks culture of misogyny and predatory sexual behavior that spanned decades in the organization, including numerous allegations against former CEO and president Terdema Ussery.

Who’s going No. 1, and how far has OU star Trae Young climbed? What prospect can the Cavs — or a potential trade partner — land with the Brooklyn pick? We project both rounds.

“For the most part, the diagnosis was sleep deprivation,” Clifford told ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. “The headaches and the cause of the headaches were a lack of regular sleep and the stress that goes along with coaching. There were two ways to treat it: stronger medication or stepping away from coaching, stopping the travel, getting regular sleep, diet and exercise.”

It’s worth checking out the rest of Wojnarowski’s article on Clifford, as well as this thoughtful and insightful piece by the Charlotte Observer’s excellent beat reporter Rick Bonnell.

Antetokounmpo had 26 points and 12 rebounds, and Milwaukee snapped Toronto’s seven-game win streak with a 122-119 overtime victory Friday night.

“We haven’t beaten them in a while so the win feels a lot better, to be honest with you,” Antetokounmpo said. “They’re a great team, too.”

Eric Bledsoe and Khris Middleton each scored 21 points as the Bucks won the opener of an eight-game stretch against teams in playoff contention. Jason Terry scored 14 points, and John Henson and Thon Maker each had 12.jaguars_007-223x223

The fun of Foles and/or Wentz is just beginning in Philadelphia. Either way, the Eagles are positioned as the big winners.

The question for Pederson and the Eagles is whether Foles gives them a better chance to win big in their system going forward, with their supporting cast, and whether he might have been rolling the same way with the same opportunity early in 2017.

“I told him to take this in, enjoy this moment. I told him you’re a big, big part of why this team won this championship and won this game,” Pederson said. “I told him hopefully we’ll back in this game with him leading the way.”

Stay tuned.

On the other hand, Friday on YES/ESPN-NY Radio drive time, Michael Kay said he is 19-30-1 on his NFL picks. Francesa, though, who is never right, never has once been wrong.

Their next two games come at home against the Bengals and Ravens, so they have a great chance to stand at 6-3, with the Colts, Cardinals and 49ers waiting later in the season.

The Titans’ record has some fool’s gold in it. Two of their wins came against the Browns (in overtime) and Colts, and they’ve been outscored by 15 points. They lack offensive weapons for Marcus Mariota as is, and now tight end Delanie Walker is banged up.

Identified as 13-year-old Ryan McKenna, he casually took a selfie with Timberlake before getting back on his phone.

Now known as the “Selfie Kid,” McKenna has become an Internet meme because of his lack of excitement standing next to Timberlake and the fact that he didn’t know the words to Timberlake’s songs.

In reality, McKenna told the Pioneer Press, he was switching his phone from video to camera mode.

“I just thought to myself, ‘I’ll never get this opportunity again in my whole life,’” McKenna said. “I just went for it.”

He already has appeared on “Good Morning America,” where he said he has gotten more than 8,000 new followers in the span of just 12 hours.

“It was already crazy to be at the Super Bowl in the first place,” McKenna said. “Then all of a sudden I’m up on the jumbotron and everyone is talking about me. I can’t believe it.”patriots_086_aa4196cc08ec6837-180x180
